      STANLEY — Raymond Richard Sorensen, 86, of Stanley, town of Delmar died May 17, 2016, at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire, under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice surrounded by his family.

      Raymond was born Feb. 2, 1930, to Hans C. and Victoria L. (Ziemba) Sorensen at home in the town of Colburn. Ray was raised on the family farm in the town of Delmar. He graduated from Stanley High School in 1948. Ray worked on the home farm helping to build a new barn until 1950, when he went to Chicago, and worked on road construction for S.G. Hayes Construction Co. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1951, and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict until he was honorably discharged Nov. 28, 1953.

      On Feb. 28, 1954, he married Violet Zatkovich at St. Frances De Sales Catholic Church in Chicago. Ray again worked for S.G. Hayes Construction Co. until they moved to the town of Delmar, Stanley, in 1955, and began farming. He lived there until his health began to fail, and then moved to the Chippewa Manor Apartments, and then to Milestone Senior Living in Eau Claire.

      Raymond was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Emer-Quinn Council 3249. He also was a member of the American Legion Post # 0112. Ray served as clerk of the Maple Hill School, as supervisor on the Farmers Telephone Co., was a supervisor on the Chippewa County Board for four years, a supervisor for the town of Delmar Town Board for over 20 years, and was chairman of town of Delmar for 16 years. He was of service to the public for most of his lifetime.

      Ray loved farming, where he raised his family that he loved, especially his grandchildren and great -grandchildren. Raymond was a great fan of the Packers, Badgers and Brewers.

      Raymond is survived by his wife, Violet; five children, Cheryl (Don) Bengtson of Chisago City, Minn., Linda (Dean) Austin of Roberts, Sandra (Mark Pilgrim) Sorensen of Chippewa Falls, Vicky (Robert) Bowerman of Cameron, Dale (Angela) Sorensen of Chippewa Falls; 14 grandchildren, Valerie (Josh) Peterson, Erica (Mike) Barnard, Brett Bengtson, Nikki (Travis) Anderson, Kari (Brian) Bexell, Kevin Austin, Jessica (Darren) Hodek, Katie (Josh) Hull, Andrea (Bobby) Ciolkosz, Gregory (Chip) Symbal, Taylor Bowerman, Samuel Sorensen, Ryan Sorensen and Cassie Sorensen; two stepgrandchildren, Tyler and Whitney Pilgrim; seven great- grandchildren, Kennedy Bexell, Hattie Peterson, Bo Hodek, Wyatt Hull, Brinley Hull, Caleb Ciolkosz and Claire Ciolkosz; siblings, Rosanne Dorn, Richard (Carol) Sorensen, Victor (Darla) Sorensen; and sister-in-law, Dolores Stimac; also, numerous nieces and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans C. and Victoria Sorensen; infant son, in 1965; sister, Dolores Ernst; brothers, Jack and Hans L.; brothers-in-law, Earl Dorn, Jim Ernst and Steve Stimac; sisters-in-law, Helen Sorensen and Dorothy Sorensen; Violet’s parents, Mike and Agnes Zatkovich.

      A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Stanley, with Deacon Ned Willkom officiating. Burial will follow at East Side cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley, with a 7:30 p.m. parish rosary. Visitation will also continue from 10 a.m. until time of departure to church Saturday at the funeral home.
