    • Mathilda E. Brown, 85, of Eau Claire passed away Sunday, September 10, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital with her family at her bedside.

      She was born August 22, 1921, in Willard, Wisconsin, to Francis and Antonia (Krizmanich) Kokolay.

      Mathilda graduated from Greenwood High School in 1939, and then attended Stevens Point College. After college she worked at the Dodge plant in Chicago as an inspector for B-29 Bomber parts until World War II ended. She later worked for a cleaning service in Chicago for several years.

      Mathilda married Lowell D. Brown on March 22, 1979, in Eau Claire. They lived in Eau Claire for 27 years.

      She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women. Mathilda loved baking, reading, writing, bingo, red roses and dancing, especially the polka. She was a sharp dresser and loved shopping for clothes.

      She had a wonderful zest of life. She loved to go to the movies and eat shrimp at the Red Lobster. Mathilda and Lowell’s greatest joy was spending time together, watching Packer football games and the “Millionaire” game show. Mathildaresided at Mt. Washington in Eau Claire for the last 10 years.

      Mathilda is survived by her husband, Lowell; four daughters, Sharon (Eugene) King of Brawley, Calif., Cynthia (late Dennis) Orbin, and her special friend Milton, of Madison, Marilyn (John) Todd of Brookfield, Ill., and Barb (Dave) Balliett of Augusta; three grandchildren, Alicia Todd, Harold King and Ray Luedtke; two step-grandchildren, Mitch Balliett and March Balliett; two brothers, Darwin and Rudy Kokolay; and two sisters, Ann Boh of Marshfield and Carolyn Feitl of LaGrange Park, Ill.

      She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Frank, Tony and Martin; and two sisters, Sylvia Boh and Mary Kokolay.

      Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire, Wis. (phone (715) 832-8301).

      Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2006, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Kaste officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
