Donald H Urbas, 94, passed away today, July 8th, 2024.
He was born in Chicago on March 20, 1930, to Stanley and Olga Urbas. Don graduated at the age of 16 from Thorp High School in 1946 and then worked in Chicago. Don married Mary Ann Lewan from Gilman and they were married 57 years before Mary Ann’s passing. They lived in Thorp and then moved to Lake Hallie where they raised their family.
Don had many interests such as: deer hunting with his sons, trout fishing, camping, growing a garden, and politics. Don was a bricklayer till the age of 66. Don became a member of the Bricklayers Union in 1948 and maintained that membership until he passed away, he spent 20 of those years as the President of the Union. Don entered the army in June of 1951 and was a Private First Class working on Signal Repair.
Don is survived by; six children, Michael (Janet) Urbas, Barry Urbas, Sandra (John) Hjortland, Bruce (Katy) Urbas, William Urbas, and Linda (Todd Johnston) Urbas; five grandchildren, Ben, Alex, Sam, Morgan (Eric Svenson and daughter Adelaide-1st great-grandchild), and Trace; he is also survived by his sister Patricia Cohen of Mims, FL and brother Stanley (Laurie) Urbas of Seabeck, WA. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann (Lewan) Urbas, his parents, Stanley and Olga Urbas and his brother Raymond Urbas.
Graveside services will be held sometime in late summer at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spooner, WI where Military Rites will be accorded by the Rice Lake Veterans Center Honor Guard. The family asks in lieu of flowers, a gift to Irvine Park in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin in Donald’s name. The park was a place he donated to many times.
Interment will be private at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
