  Obituaries 1/15/2002 Alex Gutowski Alex A. Gutowski, 90, of N15116 Fernwall Avenue (town of Thorp), Stanley, Wis., died Monday, January 14, 2002, at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. Alex was born on February 20, 1911, to Anton and Veronica (Ksianiznicek) Gutowski in the town of Thorp, rural Stanley. He grew up in the Junction area and attended area schools. He married Julia Szczech on September 1, 1934, at St. Mary's Czestochowa Catholic Church. After their marriage, they lived in Cicero, Ill., from 1934 to 1943; and then they moved back to the town of Thorp, where they lived and farmed for many years. Alex was a member of Holy Family Men's Club for many years. His wife, Julia, preceded him in death on October 17, 1987. He is survived by two sons, Leonard (Jane) Gutowski of Thorp and Severy "Butch" Gutowski of Stanley; six daughters, Sister Bernadine of Springfield, Ill., Joan (Richard) Shakal of Stanley, Diane (Ronald) Zais of Stanley, Virginia (Ronald) Kodl of Thorp, Kay (Edward) Strojny of Thorp and Carol (Robert) Hubbard of Withee; one brother, Charles Gutowski of Stanley; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Julia; two granddaughters, Barbara and Patricia; two sisters, Bernice Swanson and Helen Bielecki; and four brothers, Chester, Stanley, Phillip and Ben Gutowski. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2002, at St. Bernard's - St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp, with Fr. John Puerner officiating. Grandsons will be serving as pallbearers and other grandchildren will be serving as giftbearers. Burial will be in St. Mary's Czestochowa Cemetery, rural Stanley. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. rosary service.
