Researcher's Notes

During WW I there is a Walenty Langiewicz, from Thorp, Wisconsin (Pg 199 Vol. 1) listed as a member of the Polish Army in France, called "Haller's Army-from the Polish Genealogical Society of America comes the following statement "An estimated 20,000 Polish persons answered the call to fight for freedom and the opportunity to regain Poland's independence during World War I in the Polish Army in France (in Polish Armia Polska we Francyi). They were recruited from among the Polish immigrants who came to America to fight with France."

Saint Joseph Cemetery
Swift County, Minnesota
Lat: 45° 11' 02"N, Lon: 95° 53' 53"W
Edison Twp, R42W Sec 23
Contributed by Marvin Klang, Oct 13, 2005, last edited Nov 12, 2005 [mklang51@juno.com]. Total records = 78.

From Holloway, MN, cemetery is 5 miles south on Swift County Road 10, a paved road. (1/2 mile south of Junction Swift County Rd 10 and Swift County Rd 6, paved roads) Traveling south the cemetery will be on your left.

In 1879 a group of Polish people, mostly from St Paul and Hastings, settled in New Posen (now Edison Township, Swift County, Minnesota). By 1887 the little colony had grown to nineteen families and they decided to build a church. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Blahosky, Sr. donated five acres of land to be used for the site of Saint Joseph Church and Cemetery. In 1944 the church was moved into Holloway, which is in Moyer Township, leaving just the cemetery.

Around 1990 the church closed in Holloway and consolidated with Saint John Catholic Church in Appleton, MN, who is now the custodian and maintains the cemetery grounds. The cemetery is in good condition.

This is a complete list of tombstone inscriptions. However, as it is an old country cemetery, and have done extensive family research, I strongly believe the ** individuals are also buried in this cemetery. These speculations are derived from viewing either Death Certificates, tombstone placement or from the obituary listed in the local papers.
