    Big Lake resident MARSHALL R. SYMBOL, 56, died at his home April 14, 2002, due to complications of cancer. A service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Faith Bible Fellowship in Big Lake, with Pastor Ethan Hansen officiating. A public visitation will be 2-3 p.m. Pallbearers will be Chester Malanowski, LeRoy Symbol, Robert Kottre, Charlie Bare, Kevin McCann, Nick Muntean, Tom Stalting and Jeff Walters. Mr. Symbol was born Oct. 9, 1945, in Chicago, Ill. He completed high school, then served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He moved to Alaska in 1982, living in Anchorage until 1990. He then moved to the Big Lake area. Mr. Symbol was employed as a carpenter most of his life. He had been the owner of One Way Builders and had worked on remodeling buildings in the Anchorage area such as the Country Village Mall, Crisis Pregnancy Center and the Anchorage Christian Center. He also did new construction and many private remodels in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley, and he did the renovation of the ORCA Adventures Lodge in Cordova in 1999-2000. He was a member of the Anchorage Christian Center from 1983-1989 and a member and Deacon of the Faith Bible Fellowship in Big Lake from 1990-2001. His family stated: ''Marshall enjoyed being with his family. He enjoyed shooting pool and had a table in his home. He spent many hours playing pool with friends and family. '' 'Yo' was his trademark and favorite word, along with his American flag bandana, leather coat, engineer boots and belt buckle worn on his left side. He was extremely patriotic. If you were his friend, you knew you would never go hungry or homeless because he always made time for those in need.'' He is survived by his wife, Patricia Symbol; children, LeRoy Symbol, Laura Snodgress and Lolly Symbol; grandchildren, Colton Symbol, Charity, Shea and Kaya Snodgress; and step-grandchildren, Justin and Heather Grimes. Memorial donations may be made to Good News For Asia, P.O. Box 220404, Anchorage 99522-0404. Arrangements were by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory of Wasilla.
