Joseph Gutowski of Antioch
Funeral services with a Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Gutowski, 67, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Peter Church, Antioch. Born March 10, 1936, in Gilman, Wis., the son of Bernard and Helen (nee Symbal) Gutowski, he passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Condell Medical Center, Libertyville, surrounded by his family. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Antioch. In 1948, Mr. Gutowski moved to Antioch, where he was a member of St. Peter Church. He was a 46-year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge @#525, where he had been the governor for seven terms, was the third district president and earned the highest degree in 1995 as Pilgrim; he also worked on the fish fry crew. Joe was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, enjoyed golfing, bowling with the Moose Bowling Traveling League, was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and a member of the Chain-O-Lakes Boat Club. In 1985, he retired from Johnson Motors after 30 years of service, and later worked as a grave digger for 18 local cemeteries. Joe was a 1954 graduate of Antioch High School and married his high school sweetheart, Louise Portalski on May 5, 1956, at St. Peter Church in Antioch. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Louise; children, Jeff (Cathy) of Des Plaines, Julie (Corky) Graham of Burlington, Ky., Jim (Kim) Gutowski of Lindenhurst and Jeri (David) Graham of Antioch; grandchildren, Erica, Kristen, Jenny, Lenny (Kelsey), Lanaya, Stephanie, JJ, DJ, Cameron, Cassandra, Mitchell (Melissa) and Kathy; great-grandchildren, Mariah, Marcus and Kaitlyn; brothers and sisters, Jean Benes of Berlin, Wis., Bernie (Shirley) Gutowski of Peoria, Ariz., Delores (Melfred) Stillson of Sun City, Ariz., Barbara (Les) Miller of Antioch and Patsy (Bob) Hula of Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant brothers. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Route 83), Antioch, with the LOOM Pilgrim service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to MooseHeart School Fund or St. Peter Church, in his memory.
