Lydia Vitort, age 63, of Cumberland, WI died at her home on Sunday September 23 2018 after a 3 year battle with lung cancer. She was born on July 24, 1955 in Stanley Wisconsin to James and Jeanette Vitort.
Lydia graduated from Stanley High School and then attended North Central Technical College in Wausau and earned an associates degree in Nursing as a single mother of two boys. Later she obtained a bachelors degree in Nursing from UW Eau Claire while working at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake. She also earned a Masters Degree in Family Therapy from UW Stout. She worked as a Family Therapist for many years in Rice Lake, New Richmond, the Stockbridge-Munsee Reservation and Shawano, Wisconsin.
Lydia married Howard Bichler on June 6, 1984 in Wausau, Wisconsin. She is survived by her husband and two sons Travis Tomkowiak of Herbster, Wisconsin and Seth Bichler of Duluth, Minnesota and a grandson Michael Tomkowiak. She is also survived by her brother Jim Vitort and her sisters Kathy Long and Cindy Bernklau, as well as numerous cousins and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Anthony Tomkowiak, her parents James and Jeanette Vitort and father and mother in law Joseph and Delores Bichler.
Raised on a small family farm north of Thorp, WI, Lydia loved rural living and was always taking advantage of opportunities to travel and get out in nature. Lydia rediscovered her love for horses twenty years ago and enjoyed trail riding with her quarter horse Bubba and her Haflinger named Bailey with her family and special friends Rose Brunclik and Debbie Hallingstad. She lived a special life as attested by her many friends and all of her patients whose lives she touched.
A celebration of Lydia’s life will be held On Twin Lakes, the farm of Rose and John Brunclik located at 2522 28th Ave., Birchwood, WI 54817. Anyone whose life was impacted by Lydia is welcome to attend at 2:00 p.m. on
Saturday, October 6.
