      Ethel Szczech Ethel Szczech, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 7, 2008, at Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire.

      Ethel was born on March 7, 1916, to Paul and Antoniette Bania. On Oct. 11, 1941, she married George Szczech in Stanley. They lived in Chicago and New Baden, Ill., before moving to the town of Worden where they farmed for 42 years. Ethel was a homemaker and farm wife. She loved her family, gardening, her pets and was a strong believer in education.

      She is survived by one son, Dr. George M. (Jeanette), of Chapel Hill, N.C.; three daughters, Gloria of Lebanon, Pa., Vicky (Dave) Price of Pewaukee and Celia (Wayne) Sime of Eau Claire; five grandchildren, Bridget (James) Paschal, Timothy (Jennifer) Szczech, Jason Szczech, Valerie (John) Gabrysiak and Eve (Kevin) Lindsay; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Paschal, John William and Andros James Gabrysiak; and many nieces and nephews.

      She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; six brothers; and two sisters.

      Private services were held on June 9 at Stokes, Prock and Mundt Funeral Home in Altoona.

      The family would like to thank the kind caregivers at Syverson Lutheran Home and St. Joseph's hospice staff.
